Aysen Challenge 2011, Chilean Patagonia

Summer is almost here, and magnificent places in Patagonia are blooming. Some of us are preparing to start new adventures, conquer places and meet new friends. Where are you going trekking or riding in January?

Just 30 teams are allowed to participate in a fantastic trip in Patagonia, Aysen Challenge 2011 (Desafio Aysen). Each team will be formed by 4 competitors and 2 support staff. They are going to cross 2 national reserves of life in 4 days, following a 155 Km section of the Sendero de Chile (Chilean Trail). This expedition is complex and diverse and allows you to know the Aysen Region in a way that few people can.

The teams must be prepared to cross by water, horse riding, trekking and bicycle amazing landscapes in a place of incredible biodiversity.

About the Challenge

Aysen Challenge 2011 will start on January 13th at Puerto Ingeniero Ibáñez and will extend until January 16th. The race will follow part of Sendero Chile (a route which runs along the country), the path is marked and crosses public and private roads as well as the wonderful Simpson River.

The terrain varies from very simple to fairly complex snow covered mountain crossings with strong winds, it also has river crossings, bicycle and level 3 rapids. In total the Aysen Challenge covers 155 kilometers across 2 Protected Areas, lakes and rivers where you will be able to fully enjoy the Patagonian Andes Mountains.

You can explore glaciers, fjords, beautiful mountains and to taste delicious Patagonian recipes like the fantastic “Asado al Palo Patagonico” (Patagonian lamb BBQ). Beautiful trails are surrounded by a diverse flora and fauna, unique in the world. Aysen Region also is the gate to the Northern Ice fields and San Rafael Glacier.
