Secret Christchurch, Part II
Actualization: our friend Tom is safe and good after the February’s earthquake (2011), we are very sorry about what happened in Christchurch but we know they will be better very soon :D
Here is the second part of my friend Tom’s article:
You can read the first part here
- Godley Head; see the canons installed to defend the land against the Japanese in World War II, and tunnels and shelters put in before to defend us from the Russians and French, a whole labyrinth of tunnels
- the Gondola; awesome views over the city and the sea! Also great to cycle down or Glyde wheeeeee!!!
- Otahuna House; fine guest house with amazing English style gardens (and food!)
- Dean’s House; one of the first pioneers of prominence in our region. A hero of the people!
- Jet ski or sail in Purau Bay; also there is a lovely campsite there which has beautiful views out to the harbor!
- Experience Colonial life at Ferrymead Historic Park; an interesting theme park reflecting on how we used to live, eat and dress, also now with a section devoted to Maori culture. Worth a look!
- Willowbank Park; Want to see a Kiwi? (The bird not the person :D For all our native animals this is the place to go. The restaurant also specialises in NZ lamb but it is quite DEAR!
- Adrenaline Forest; Flying Fox fan or into paintball, do it while living like a Kiwi Bush man :)
- Historic train in McClean’s Island; ride through the forest and relax taking in the sights and sounds of the countryside
- Riccarton Bush; very near the city centre it is the small piece of forest left in the city for the people to enjoy. Free and funky!
- Fish and Chips at Hagley Park; every person that lives here has a favourite Fish and Chip shop (mine is Theo’s in Riccarton ;) Hagley’s our version of Central Park! Has tennis courts, croquet fields, squash courts, hocky, football and rugby fields Yep we even have a golf course (It’s true!!!)
